Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): Coronaviruses are a virus group that can lead to serious illnesses like colds and pneumonia. Recently, a new coronavirus has been detected that has not been seen in humans before. The disease, called COVID-19, can spread from person to person.

Essential employees need to be healthy, so that they can provide services, such as providing care for the sick and grocery products and food.
Symptoms, chronic health risks
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): Symptoms of COVID-19 usually include fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath. Most people with COVID-19 have mild to moderate symptoms, and they get better without complications. Malnutrition, COVID-19 can cause pneumonia, hospitalization or death.
People who are at risk of becoming very ill are people 50 years of age or older or who have chronic health problems, such as:
- Lung disease
- Heart disease
- Poor resistance
No vaccine is available for COVID-19. However, studies on drugs and vaccines are underway. The precautions described below can help keep you healthy.
If you do not feel ill, you usually do not need to wear a mask. If your healthcare provider instructs you, you should wear a mask. Otherwise, facial masks must be reserved for the health care system.
- Stay at home All New Yorkers – healthy or sick – need to stay home. You should leave your home only for urgent tasks, such as a job (if you work for an important business or entity ) or collect groceries, merchandise, or emergency medical care. Try using delivery services if possible.
- When you must go out to do the work required, keep a distance of at least six feet between yourself and others.
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water, each time for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- If you do not wash your hands, do not touch the face.
- When sneezing or coughing, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or cloth sleeve. Do not use your hands.
If you are sick stay home.
- If you are not feeling well within three to four days, contact your healthcare provider. Make calls, send messages, use telemedicine or contact your physician through your Patient Portal.
- If you are not seriously ill, do not go to the emergency department or elsewhere for health care. Stay home and provide access to health services for the more critically ill.
- If you need medical care, call 311. You can attend NYC(BD) regardless of immigration status or ability to pay.
|You can leave your home if all of the following is true:|
|1. It’s been seven days since your symptoms started.|
|2. You have not had a fever for three days without using fever-lowering medicines.|
|3. The symptoms of your cough or sore throat have subsided.|
Self-monitoring and testing
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): While at home, all New Yorkers should monitor their own health. Self-monitoring means checking yourself for fever and being alert for COVID-19 symptoms – fever, cough, shortness of breath and throat pain.
If you think you have COVID-19 and your illness is mild, you do not need to see your healthcare provider and you will not be tested. What your doctor tells you to do to get better will not change with your examination. They will tell you to stay home so that others don’t get sick from you.
If you are not hospitalized and your medical condition is not affected by the disease, you will not be tested. Limited examination protects healthcare workers and stores essential medical products, such as masks and gloves, for needed supplies.
When to contact your healthcare provider
If you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or other cold or flu symptoms and you do not feel well after three to four days, you should contact your doctor. Contact your doctor online or over the phone, instead of going to them yourself.

Get help for mental health, stress
This outbreak can be stressful for you, your loved ones and your friends. It is normal to feel restless, sad, anxious and has other symptoms of pain such as fear or sleep problems.
